Start with a shortlist, not a single supplier

For Korean skincare sourcing, the first goal is not to find one company and trust it. The first goal is to build a supplier-candidate shortlist that you can compare. A useful shortlist should include the supplier name, source URL, product fit, OEM or ODM language, certification signals, MOQ clues, export signals, and the questions you still need to verify directly.

This matters because Korean beauty supply chains can include brand owners, OEM factories, ODM labs, exporters, distributors, and trading companies. Some are excellent partners, but they play different roles. A buyer looking for a private-label serum manufacturer should not evaluate a wholesale distributor the same way they evaluate an OEM factory.

tradeKorea is a Korean B2B marketplace connected to KITA. It is useful for finding Korean exporters and comparing product categories, but buyers still need to confirm company identity, certificates, samples, and commercial terms.

EC21

EC21 has a broad supplier directory and can surface many skincare and cosmetics candidates quickly. Because marketplace listings can include manufacturers, exporters, and traders, use EC21 for volume and then verify each candidate through other sources.

Company websites

A real supplier website should show product categories, company location, inquiry path, factory or R&D language, and export or certification information. Weak websites do not automatically mean a company is bad, but they do increase the number of questions you need to ask before sending money.

Trust signals to check before sending the RFQ

Do not call a supplier verified just because it appears in a search result. Use these as first-pass signals only:

• OEM or ODM language: The company clearly says it can manufacture, formulate, fill, package, or develop private-label skincare.
• Cosmetics compliance signals: Look for MFDS, ISO 22716, CGMP, GMP, vegan, halal, or export documentation mentions. Ask for current certificate copies directly.
• Product fit: The supplier already shows similar products, such as serums, creams, sheet masks, sunscreen, ampoules, or cleansers.
• Export readiness: The company mentions English inquiry support, overseas buyers, shipping terms, sample process, or export documents.
• Consistent identity: Company name, address, phone, and website should not conflict across platforms.
• Direct contact path: A form, email, phone, or messaging contact should be visible.

Red flags that need follow-up

• The profile only says "cosmetics supplier" and never explains manufacturing, OEM, ODM, or export capability.
• The company offers too many unrelated categories with no clear skincare specialization.
• Certificates are mentioned but no certificate name, issuing body, date, or scope is shown.
• The supplier cannot explain MOQ, lead time, sample fee, or packaging options.
• The website and marketplace listing use different company names or addresses.
• The first reply pushes payment before samples, documents, or product specifications are discussed.

What to include in your first RFQ

Korean OEM suppliers usually respond better when the first message is specific. A vague "please send catalog" email gives the supplier little reason to prioritize you. Your first RFQ should include:

1. Your company, country, and sales channel.
2. Product type, such as collagen serum, sunscreen, sheet mask, cleanser, or ampoule.
3. Target order quantity and expected reorder volume.
4. Packaging needs, such as bottle size, tube, pouch, label, box, or custom design.
5. Certification or market requirements, such as MFDS-related documents, ISO 22716, vegan, halal, or destination-market requirements.
6. Sample request and desired timeline.
7. Target incoterms or a request for ex-factory and FOB pricing.
